Hollywood leading man George Clooney has spoken about US Presidential candidate Donald Trump in a recent interview, it has emerged today (March 3).
A long list of celebrities, actors and musicians have rallied against The Republican Party hopeful, who is running in the current election race for US Presidency. George Clooney – one of Hollywood’s most recognisable faces after starring in films such as Solaris, Ocean’s 11, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? and many more – is the latest to pass his opinion on the state of US politics.
In an interview with The Guardian, Clooney said: “I met Donald once. I was sitting in a booth and we talked for a while. Then he did Larry King, and he said I was very short. And I was like: ‘I was sitting down the whole time, Donald!”
GettyClooney goes on in the interview, sharing his thoughts on the ex-The Apprentice host: “He’s just an opportunist. Now he’s a fascist; a xenophobic fascist.” But he is not entirely despondent. He repeats the old saw, usually ascribed to Winston Churchill: “You can count on Americans to do the right thing after they’ve exhausted all the other possibilities.”

“Let’s put things into perspective. You know, the truth of the matter is, in election season, things go crazy, and the loudest voices are the furthest and most extreme. So you hear a massively stupid idea, like we’re going to ban Muslims from the country. Now, we’re not ever going to do that. It says in the Statue of Liberty, bring us your huddled masses. It’s not what’s going to happen.”
Clooney is also starring in the new Coen Brothers film Hail Caesar! alongside Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johanson, Jonah Hill and Ralph Fiennes. You can watch a trailer for the forthcoming film – reelased in UK cinemas on March 4 – below.
Set in 1950s Hollywood, Hail, Caesar! tells the story of Eddie Mannix (Brolin), Capital Pictures’ head of physical production and studio fixer. His job is to maintain the clean reputation of the company and its stars, keeping them free from controversy. Mannix is advised that studio star Baird Whitlock (Clooney) has disappeared after not showing up for work on the current production of Hail Caesar, a Tale of Christ’s Life.
He initially believes Whitlock has been drinking, but receives a call from a group of communists who claim to have kidnapped him and want a ransom. Mannix must help save Whitlock while keeping Hollywood’s gossip columnists off the trail of the story.
