Steven Spielberg is an absolute legend: the man behind Jaws, E.T. and Jurassic Park is undoubtedly a king of the big screen. And now he’s back, with his latest action-adventure flick Ready Player One, which is just as gripping and as full as adventure as ever.
Based on Ernest Cline’s bestselling book, Ready Player One is set in 2045, where the world is on the verge of collapse and people find solace in the OASIS, a virtual universe where you can do anything. The founder of this alternate reality, James Halliday (Mark Rylance) promises that whoever finds a digital Easter Egg hidden somewhere in his creation will inherit his massive fortune. These Easter Eggs are pop culture reference from your favourite 80’s and 90’s games, films and bands, and Ready Player One follows our unlikely hero, Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan), a teenager who lives in the poverty ridden ‘stacks’, as he finds himself at the centre of a hunt for this secret ‘Easter Egg’.

Watts ends up being the first person to complete the first contest (the primary task in finding the hidden ‘Easter Egg’), landing him in the public eye and meaning he becomes something of a celebrity. Teaming up with his pals (played by Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, Philip Zhao and Win Morisaki), they have to battle against corporate tycoon Nolan Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn) to ensure they’re the ones who inherit OASIS’ fortunes.
