A whole host of bands took to the stage at this year’s big bash at London’s O2 Academy Brixton – here are some of the best snaps from the action on stage.
Foals delivered a typically ferocious performance of one of their heaviest tracks, kicking off the ceremony in fitting fashion.
Kicking off the NME Awards 2016 with Austin, Texas were Foals, who delivered a raucous performance of the title track from their fourth album ‘What Went Down’. Here’s Yannis in full-on yelping mode, no doubt screaming about the apple of his eye.
The Maccabees were next up, performing ‘Marks To Prove It’, the title track from their fourth album. Here’s guitarist Hugo White rocking the stage.

But Chris Martin and co. seemed to respect Sykes’ hustle – he was pictured on social media soon after smiling and laughing his way through the BMTH man’s invasion of their dining space.
Bring Me The Horizon were up next – and, as you can see here, they weren’t particularly keen on staying within the parameters of the stage.
Frontman Oli Sykes seemed keen on getting up close and personal with our Godlike Geniuses, Coldplay – during their performance of ‘Happy Song’, he got up on their table for a bit of screaming.
Chris Martin and co. were presented with their prestigious prize by Kylie Minogue and NME editor Mike Williams – the band received a rapturous reception from those gathered in the O2 Academy, Brixton.
Both punters and VIPs alike were enraptured by the recent Superbowl Half Time Show headliners.
Chris Martin enjoyed interacting with the delighted audience members – despite being a global superstar, he wasn’t afraid to get up and personal with the fans.
A fitting close, then, to the 2016 NME Awards with Austin, Texas – we can’t wait ’til next year!
Complete with bursts of confetti, colourful lighting and audience participation – punters were given a wristband to wear that would light up in different colours throughout the performance – it was a show befitting of their newly-anointed Godlike tag.
