The 1975 closed last weekend’s Reading Festival on the Radio One/NME Stage with a glorious set that left a lasting impression, despite lasting only an hour. Teenagers wept, he drew languidly on a fag, we all had a good time.
The band closed the festival on the Radio One/NME Stage in 2014 and, having grown massively in popularity in the two years inbetween, were ready to wow us with how far they’ve come.
Frontman Matt Healy was magnetic throughout and could elicit screams from the crowd with just a flick of his lovely hair.
Healy told the crowd to jump on the count of four during ‘The Sound’. Needless to say, everyone obeyed gleefully.
The cameras kept cutting to overhwelmed teenagers weeping in the audience, as if they were watching The Beatles in 1965.

“I don’t know what the future holds, but I can promise you two things,” Healy said at the end of this exciting set. “One: we’re gonna go away and make another record. Two: we’re gonna come back and we’re gonna fucking headline Reading, I fucking promise you.”
