Muse’s headline set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2016 was a stormer: relive the whole thing in pictures.
Welcome to Muse’s Glastonbury headline set at the Pyramid Stage on Friday night! Matt Bellamy was in his element bashing out the riffs: as the rockers closed Brexit day with appropriately apocalyptic tunes.
Chris Wolstenholme was on top form, providing basslines that echoed across the site – on ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ and ‘Dead Inside’ he even brings out a double-necked bass for even bigger blasting power.
The band have been touring with a load of flying arena drones to match the ominous theme of album ‘Drones’, but Health & Safety measures prevented them from being used tonight – there were fears the balloon-equipped machines might get punctured by the flags in the crowd.
Despite that, we got visuals of the drones from their arena tour chopped up onto screens that moved around like Tetris pieces.
Matt Bellamy and co. weren’t averse to giving the fans old material: ‘Plug In Baby’, ‘Hysteria’, ‘Map Of The Problematique’, ‘Time Is Running Out’ and ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ get huge crowd singalongs.
Brexit may have been the big news of the day but Matt didn’t mention it, the only possible hint of his view being his decision to thank the crowd in a load of European languages.
