Muse embark on a nationwide tour ahead of their summer Glastonbury headline set. We were at the band’s O2 show on Apr 3 2016 and got a taste of what’s in store for Worthy Farm this year.
Muse’s spectacular Drones Tour hit the O2 in London last night (April 3) in a blaze of sci-fi rock glory. The cutting-edge show opened with the descent of a horde of spherical drones to the tune of the album’s churchy title track.
During ‘Starlight’ the band’s trademark Hullaballoons were released, one of which Bellamy had to head-butt off the stage. The show also involved regular instrumental breaks, with drummer Dom Howard and keyboardist Morgan Nicholls taking centre stage for ‘The 2nd Law: Isolated System’ and footage of JFK, Edward Snowden and Martin Luther King being screened during ‘JFK’.
With barely a break for an encore, the band returned for the eviscerating ‘Take A Bow’ and their vaulting new pop anthem ‘Mercy’, during which streamers, steam and confetti shaped like tiny men were blasted into the crowd.
As tradition dictates, the show closed with ‘Knights Of Cydonia’, bassist Chris Wolstenholme throwing his harmonica to a crowd member after his customary intro and the crowd moshing like demented salmon during the riff-roaring climax.
