Last weekend saw the first Coachella Festival of 2016 taking place on the green fields of Indio, California (it’s back again this weekend for round two). As always, it kick started this year’s festival season with a bang – here are the best bits from Weekend One.
Rihanna made Calvin Harris’ set of basic EDM about 100% more interesting, by coming on and belting out their 2011 collaboration ‘We Found Love’. Scottish DJ Harris closed the first weekend of Coachella with a set that also featured appearances from Big Sean and John Newman.

Ice Cube reunited with his NWA bandmates MC Ren and DJ Yella during his set at Coachella. MC Ren and DJ Yella joined Ice Cube for renditions of the N.W.A. classics ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and ‘Fuck Tha Police’. Sadly, Dr Dre evidently proved unable or unwilling to join in with the mini-reunion. 🙁

And who’s that if it isn’t Yeezus himself, rocking up during A$AP Rocky’s set. The pair performed ‘Father Stretch My Hands Pt 1’ from West’s ‘The Life Of Pablo’ album. According to reports, the pair wanted to play one more track but the sound was cut as Rocky had already overrun his alloted time slot.

LCD Soundsystem paid tribute to David Bowie during their set, covering Bowie’s ‘Heroes’, as well as a playing a snippet of ‘November Rain’ by fellow headliners Guns N’ Roses during their performance of ‘New York, I Love You but You’re Bringing Me Down’. Welcome back, guys. We missed you.
