Catfish And The Bottlemen played to a sold out crowd at Cardiff University’s Great Hall last night. It was their first show in the Welsh capital in over a year.
The Welsh four-piece overcame a number of technical issues to play an outstanding show, with singalongs aplenty from the enthusiastic crowd.
As well as performing all tracks from debut album ‘The Balcony’, the band treated fans to a new song, ‘7’. Frontman Van McCann gave no introduction to the track, which sounded like a darker take on their first record.
“Are you with me Cardiff?” bellowed McCann before launching into ‘Homesick’, which was accompanied by the biggest singalong of the night.
The band introduced ‘26’ by thanking all the fans who bought their album when it first came out. Despite their meteoric rise Catfish And The Bottlemen still seemed humbled by the sold out crowd, thanking them once again, this time for “filling this place”.
Despite having to stop the show for five minutes due to lighting malfunctions, no spirits were dampened and an intimate performance of ‘Hourglass’ saw McCann performing without the aid of the rest of the band.
After struggling with illness over the summer, by the end of the night it was clear that Catfish And The Bottlemen are fighting fit and back on form for their completely sold out headline UK tour.
Last night’s performance saw the return of Catfish And The Bottlemen at their peak. Van McCann’s vocals were flawless and the band played like a well oiled machine.
