On Saturday night (May 7) AC/DC made their debut appearance with their brand new temporary frontman, Axl Rose – who you might recognise from his day job as the singer with a little ol’ rock band known as Guns N’ Roses. The gig took place at Passeio Marítimo de Algés in Lisbon, Portugal. Check out all the action in these spectacular pics and read our exclusive interview with Axl and AC/DC before they played their first show.
The European leg of AC/DC’s ‘Rock or Bust’ tour had to be rearranged when frontman Brian Johnson discovered he was at risk of losing his hearing if he continued touring and playing live.

Angus Young – the band’s iconic guitar player – spoke to NME before the show about replacing Brian. “When you’re in that situation you got to make decisions pretty quick, because there are a lot of people waiting,” he explained. “Because of the nature of Brian’s deafness, we knew that there was no easy fix.”

Speaking to NME about the chair, Axl commented: “It is the same actual chair itself with a different base so I worked more with their stage set-up, ‘cos I just thought it was too high and grandiose and crazy whereas this kind of blends in.”

Loving the natty towel holder to Axl’s left. A lesson in how to get sweaty with style.
