Shia LaBeouf will play his own father in biopic ‘Honey Boy’

Shia LaBeouf is to play the role of his own father in an upcoming film about his life, called ‘Honey Boy’.

It’s the story of a child star attempting to mend his relationship with his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father over the course of a decade, and is loosely based on LaBeouf’s life.

‘Honey boy’ was LaBeouf’s childhood nickname.

Lucas Hedges – star of ‘Boy Erased‘, an upcoming coming-of-age drama based on Garrard Conley’s memoir, ‘Boy Erased: A Memoir’ – will play a younger version of LaBeouf, called Otis Lort.

Last year, LaBeouf’s film ‘Man Down’ made just £7 at the UK box office in its opening weekend, with just one cinema showing it.

Last April, the actor spent a month alone in an isolated Lapland cabin, as part of his #ALONETOGETHER art project, with his only source of communication to the outside world coming through text messages to a Helsinki museum.

LaBeouf spent time in the cells last July after being arrested for public drunkeness. The actor is alleged to have behaved ‘aggressively’ towards a police officer in a hotel lobby, after becoming “disorderly” when a stranger refused him a cigarette.

He is understood to have been released from a Savannah jail after posting $7,000 (£5,400) bail.
