The Strokes and Pulp both co-headlined Reading Festival last night (August 27), and fans have been giving their verdicts on NME.COM and beyond about who they think was best.
Initial comments coming in at Facebook.com/nmemagazine have shown NME.COM users championing both bands fairly evenly. The opinions came pouring in after Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker joined the New York band during their slot to perform a cover of The Cars‘ ‘Just What I Needed’. Crowd member Leanne Robertson was convinced the Sheffield band toppled Julian Casablancas and co’s performance. “As much as I’m a huge fan of The Strokes, Pulp wiped the floor with them,” she wrote. “Julian just seemed to be half asleep for the first part. They’re a total hit and miss live.”
But Ollie Rossi was all for The Strokes, writing: “No contest, The Strokes all day long. By far the best out of the two. That’s why The Strokes were joined by Jarvis and not the other way around.”
