Thomas Cohen – widower of Peaches Geldof, who died of a drug overdose in early April 2014 – has spoken about life after the journalist and model.
Cohen – the former frontman of London artrockers S.C.U.M – spoke to the Sunday Times Magazine about being a father to his two young children, and moving on after Bob Geldof’s daughter passed away two years ago.
“I got to the stage where I thought ‘I don’t want to stay in this place anymore’. I’m not dissociating, hiding myself or escaping the reality of the situation. However, I’m not staying based in that trauma,” said Cohen, who also says he has used medication and meditation to help him get over the trauma of finding his wife after her death. He calls getting over his grief “the hardest thing you’ll ever do”
“At the time I was 23. I had two children who needed to be taken care of and, in maybe early June 2014, I started to do that, and we’re now here in 2016.”
“I just made the decision to start looking after myself and refused to lose myself and become a traumatised, grief-stricken single father who everyone’s going to look at and think I feel all of these things about.”

It was stated that there was no indication she had planned to take her own life. Pathologist Peter Jerreat reported that puncture wounds were found on Geldof’s body on her elbows, wrists and thumbs, and said the levels of heroin in her body were in a “fatal range”. There was also evidence of codeine, methadone and morphine in Geldof’s system.
Cohen told the hearing that his late wife had been undergoing weekly drugs tests since seeking treatment. She had always informed him they had been clear, with Cohen adding that he had come to believe Geldof had lied about the results of the tests.
