Continuing adverse weather conditions forced Primavera Sound 2026 to cancel opening night sets by Massive Attack, Bad Gyal, and Doja Cat, in addition to previously announced cancellations.
Yesterday (Thursday June 4) was the opening day of the festival at the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona, which is scheduled to run until Sunday (June 7). The Cure, The xx, Gorillaz, My Bloody Valentine, Addison Rae and Skrillex are topping the bill, but Thursday’s headliners were forced to cancel.
Earlier that evening, the big screens on the main stages showed a warning message, explaining that “due to adverse weather conditions, performances on this stage have been temporarily suspended.”
“Please remain calm and follow the instructions of the festival’s security and staff teams,” it continued. “Stay tuned to the festival screens and official channels for further updates. Thank you for your cooperation.”
Amid heavy rain, areas of the festival site were closed, including the Estrella Damm and Revolut stages, while at 9:30pm local time, the festival officially announced that Alex G’s set on the Revolut Stage had been cancelled, as had DeMarco’s on the Occident Stage.
Just before midnight, an Instagram post from the festival revealed that performances from Massive Attack, Bad Gyal and Doja Cat would also not go ahead. The reason given was “adverse weather and technical conditions.” Other parts of the festival continued, while some stages reopened later that night.
Doja Cat commented on the situation on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “Barcelona I am fully dressed and ready to go to stage but it’s just not safe enough to continue the show tonight. I’m so sorry that this is how this shit has to be right now. I will think of everything I can under the sun to make it up to you.
“Please stay safe and warm I will see you again I promise.”

Videos were shared on social media of festival goers attempting to shelter from the rain, as well as Geese performing earlier in the evening during the downpour.
Primavera’s announcement was met with criticism from fans, who accused them of not communicating the situation through the festival’s screens, meaning they were going back and forth to the festival site.
“If you can use stage screens for advertisements, you could use them for announcements,” wrote one, while another said: “Worst Primavera ever. Making people come back only to cancel an hour later is completely unacceptable. My disappointment is beyond words.” One commenter quipped: “Even my ex had better communication skills.”

An official statement from the festival shared today on their website said that “festival organisers worked determinedly alongside the Massive Attack, Doja Cat and Bad Gyal teams to ensure that the performances on the Estrella Damm and Revolut stages could resume later that night,” attempting to move the slots to other stages before further weather issues made than impossible.
“We understand and share the frustration and disappointment of the audience regarding this situation,” the statement continued, before sharing details about refunds for Thursday’s tickets.”
According to BBC Weather, Friday’s weather is set to be more clement, with a 29 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon, but zero thereafter.
