Tame Impala have shared a cover of Smashing Pumpkins‘ ‘Hummer’ from a new tribute album, ‘Sending Hearts To All My Dearies’. Listen below.
The blissed-out rendition of Billy Corgan and co’s 1993 track – from their second studio record, ‘Siamese Dream’ – will open the 15-track covers LP, which was co-signed and personally titled by Corgan himself.
Other acts featured across the collection include Yonaka (‘Today’), Palaye Royale (‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’), Barns Courtney (‘1979’), Alice Glass (‘Drown’) and Starbenders (‘Tonight, Tonight’).
“‘Siamese Dream’ was the soundtrack to my high school years and ‘Hummer’ is the song that takes me back there in the most potent way,” explained Tame Impala leader Kevin Parker.
His fresh take on the classic tune sees the artist return to his old psych-rock sound. In the second half of the six-minute cover, we hear a more subdued, sparse and cleaner side of Parker’s sound. Tune in here:
