Gucci Mane has released a new song called ‘TakeDat’ in which he throws shade at the controversial rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs.
Since last November, Diddy has faced multiple sexual abuse lawsuits and seen his homes in Los Angeles and Miami raided as part of a multi-state sex trafficking investigation led by US Homeland Security.
Although he maintains his innocence, the founder of Bad Boy Records has faced ridicule online, especially within the rap community. This has led to the phrase “No Diddy” becoming a popular replacement for the word “pause” after sexually suggestive sentences.
Earlier this week (April 24), Gucci Mane released ‘TakeDat’ in which he publicly mocks Diddy and comments on some of the allegations against him. In the first line, he already takes a jab at the rapper-producer, saying: “I’m just fucking around, but no Diddy.”
The name ‘TakeDat’ also refers to Diddy’s catchphrase “Take that,” which he said on hits such as The LOX‘s ‘Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop’ and before ‘Hypotnize’ on The Notorious B.I.G‘s second album ‘Life Before Death’.
Nearly every line is ended with “No Diddy” but in some instances, the ad-lib becomes more damning. For example, the trap pioneer raps, “I got a Yung Miami bitch from the city / I’m spendin’ money like a trick (No Diddy)” – which can be a reference to Diddy’s current relationship with the City Girls rapper, who is 24 years younger than him.
Elsewhere in the song, the 44-year-old seemingly comments on Diddy allegedly drugging people.
“Why you ain’t ever seen ‘Wop at the brunch? / ‘Cause they might spike the punch, man, that shit too risky,” he raps. “Rule Number One, never be too friendly / These industry n***** have bad intentions / I don’t trust nobody, and I stay my distance / Plus, your whole team suck, like the Detroit Pistons.”
The accompanying music video sees Gucci Mane in a jacuzzi, surrounded by women. This was a direct nod to Diddy’s scene in B.I.G.’s 1994 hit ‘Big Poppa’ video. This is confirmed by GuWop, who took to Instagram to post a side-by-side comparison alongside the caption, “Hardest song of the summer #TAKEDAT.”
50 Cent has already shown support for ‘TakeDat’. He reposted the music video on his X/Twitter and Instagram pages with the caption: “Oh shit! [side eye emoji] ‘WOP TOOK DA HIT this [ninja emoji] Diddy POPPED. That’s what you get.”
He also supported Kesha, who sang “I woke up in the morning like ‘Fuck P. Diddy'” while performing her Number One debut single ‘TiK ToK’ at Coachella earlier this month. 50 Cent retweeted a clip of the pop singer’s performance, tweeting: “LOL! She said, [middle finger emoji] ‘Fuck P. Diddy’. HAHAAHAHA! [side eye emoji] PUFFY LIKE, ’50 TOLD HER TO SAY THAT!’”
In November 2023, Diddy’s ex-girlfriend Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura filed a lawsuit against him for sexual and physical abuse. The case was later settled out of court.
A week later, two new allegations by two different women also came out with one claiming that Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her and the other alleging that Combs and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall took turns raping the plaintiff and her friend in 1990 or 1991 – with Diddy allegedly turning violent days later.
Elsewhere, producer Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones sued Combs in February for sexually assaulting him, having parties where sex workers and underage girls were present, and coercing him to sleep with prostitutes. Diddy replied, saying Jones’ claims were “pure fiction”.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has denied all allegations against him.
