A video showing Deftones performing a new track from their forthcoming album has emerged online today (March 7).
The new track, ‘Doomed User’, was debuted at California’s Musink festival and is to be included on the group’s imminent ‘Gore’ LP, the band’s first studio album in 4 years and the follow up to 2012’s ‘Koi No Yakan’, released on April 8. Scroll down for the album’s full tracklist.
The band will also play a show at London’s SSE Wembley Arena on June 3.
Frontman Chino Moreno told Rolling Stone: I feel like we’ve gone into the songs and really dissected them,” he said. “If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven’t done in the past. It definitely feels like we’ve taken a step from our last record. But it’s definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are. Meanwhile, guitarist Stephen Carpenter last month (24 February) admitted that playing on the band’s new record was an achievement for him because he wasn’t into their new music.
Speaking to Ultimate-Guitar.com, he opened up about the challenges he faced when recording ‘Gore’, also expressing his disinterest in the LP.
Carpenter explained: “When we were coming up with the ideas and writing the songs, the stuff that was being written, you know, the other guys’ ideas, I wasn’t too interested in it.
“It wasn’t the style or the sound I was hoping we would take. My band is going one direction and I am going another one currently.”
PressHe continued: “I look at all the songs on the record and they were all a challenge for me to get into. I just really like metal, and I love all the metal that’s being played now. I wish everybody would stop saying ‘djent’ though. That’s just dumb. It’s metal.”
When asked if he’d ever leave the band, the guitarist replied: “I would never leave the band that I started, but the band started leaving me. I can’t control that. I mean, I have a great time for the most part.
“This record has been a struggle, and we have got issues that I do not want to leave home, but how things will be in the future, I do not know. But I know what I will do, and what I will not do, and there are some things that I will not do in the future because I don’t agree with it.”
