A crowdfunder has been launched to support the cancer treatment of Peven Everett.
The Chicago house singer, producer and Gorillaz collaborator has been diagnosed with lung cancer, as per a message on the newly launched GoFundMe page, and treatments are becoming increasingly pricey.
Everett’s friend, George Shaban, is the one behind the fundraiser, and it was launched at the end of last month with the hopes of gathering $100,000 in donations to help support the cancer treatment.
“Trying to raise money for my friend Peven who needs treatment for lung cancer. Any donation will help. The cost of treatments is mounting,” a description on the crowdfunding page reads.
“Let’s give Peven some well-deserved life-saving flowers. He is in the process of treating healing and creating. Any donation is appreciated.”
At time of writing, $31,000 of the $100,000 goal has been reached thanks to 403 donations. You can donate and find out more about the fundraiser here.
Born in Chicago, Everett was raised in a musical family and able to play multiple instruments from an early age (as per MixMag). His career in the music industry began to take shape in 1996, when he and fellow Chicago producer Roy Davis Jr. teamed up for the collaborative track ‘Gabriel’.

In recent years, he is most widely recognised for his collaborations with Damon Albarn-led band Gorillaz – working alongside them on two tracks for their 2017 ‘Humanz’ album and joining them on their subsequent tour.
Before then, he formed his own record label, Studio Confession, in 1999. Other famous house tracks he appeared on included ‘Feelin’ You In And Out’ and ‘Put Your Back Into It.’
He was on the road earlier this year, playing shows in Los Angeles and Chicago as recently as March, and touring in Europe in late 2023.
