Microsoft has confirmed more than 50 classic games have been added to Xbox Game Pass, with subscribers able to play right now.
Xbox Game Pass is a monthly subscription service that gives Xbox and PC players access to a massive library of games. These are typically modern titles but a whole host of iconic retro games have now been added to the platform.
“We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Retro Classics, a collaboration between Xbox and Antstream Arcade, available to play for Game Pass members globally,” said Microsoft in an announcement blog. “Starting now, Game Pass members can dive into a collection of 50+ classic Activision games from the ’80s and ’90s, including beloved titles like Commando, Grand Prix, Kaboom!, Mech Warrior 2: 31st Century Combat, and Pitfall!”
“This initiative is a step in our commitment to game preservation and backwards compatibility, allowing players to experience many timeless games on modern devices,” they added.
The Xbox Retro Classics are running inside a giant emulator. There are Amiga games, SNES games and even a PlayStation 1 game in this collection, complete with PS1 button icon prompts. This is a very huge thing for Xbox, and I guarantee this is a start of something big. pic.twitter.com/ed5NoIyDj4

Players can take on “friends, rivals of the entire world with unique challenges” while new achievements will also be unveiled as part of Retro Classics. Microsoft went on to say the feature will be expanded to include more than 100 titles in the future.
To play Retro Classics, Xbox and PC owners will need to download a new app to access the library of iconic arcade titles.
