The soundtrack to survival game Rust is being released on vinyl for the very first time.
Originally released in 2018, Rust is a constantly evolving survival game from Facepunch studios. “The only aim in Rust is to survive. Everything wants you to die – the island’s wildlife, other inhabitants, the environment, and other survivors. Do whatever it takes to last another night,” reads an official description of the game. Players have to manage their hunger, thirst and health, make use of gathered or stolen materials and avoid threats from wild animals, NPCs and rival players.
Alex Rehberg’s soundtrack for Rust was digitally released in 2022 and today (August 6) Laced Records have confirmed a vinyl release.
The 3LP set features 29 specially remastered tracks and sleeve artwork created in collaboration with Facepunch Studio designer Lewis Ainslie. Fans can pick up standard black vinyl, or a special Laced Record Exclusive Edition that features grey and black splatter-effect discs influenced by the game’s industrial landscape. “Composed by Alex Rehberg, Rust’s soundtrack combines ambient soundscapes with jagged synth textures and heavy drums to reinforce the feelings and emotions that the game elicits in Rehberg and players: Darkness, brutality, danger and mystery with dashes of hope and peace,” reads a press release.

“Rust is generally dark, gritty and brutal, which is reflected in the big drums, distorted synthesisers and more amped-up pieces of music,” said Rehberg in a statement. “But Rust also has moments of precarious peace and hope. When writing some of the softer and more ambient pieces, I tend to imagine situations like getting back to your base with a full inventory or tending to your plants behind the safety of your walls.”
In other news, The Cure, Radiohead and more have been confirmed for the soundtrack for Stage Tour, a spiritual successor to Guitar Hero.
