Curtis Jackson AKA 50 Cent has joined the live-action TV adaptation of the Payday games as executive producer.

The original Payday:The Heist game was released in 2011 and sold more than 400,000 thousand copies in its first three months. “Payday: The Heist is an action filled first person shooter that lets players take on the role of a hardened career criminal executing intense, dynamic heists in constant pursuit of the next ‘big score’,” reads an official description of the game.

Two sequels followed – 2013’s Payday 2 and 2023’s Payday 3 – alongside a number of spin-offs. According to developers Starbreeze, the franchise has sold more than 50million units.

Earlier this year, an adaptation of Payday was announced by Starbreeze in collaboration with Vice Studios. The game developers have now confirmed 50 Cent has joined the project as executive producer alongside his G-Unit Film & Television company.

“G-Unit Film & TV has built cinematic crime stories that connect with audiences around the world. Teaming up with Starbreeze and VICE Studios and bringing the world of Payday to the screen gives us the chance to build something big, a high-energy franchise that pushes the heist genre forward,” said 50 Cent said in a statement.

“Payday has always been about the fantasy of getting away with it. Curtis and G-Unit don’t do subtle, and neither do we,” added Starbreeze CEO Adolf Kristjansson. “This is not about playing it safe; it’s about doing the franchise justice with people who are as immersed in the world as we are.”

It’s not been confirmed when the adaptation will be released and nothing about cast, script writers or directors has been revealed yet.

50 Cent is also set to star as Balrog in the Street Fighter reboot movie that hits cinemas in October, with Jason Momoa, Cody Rhodes and Noah Centineo also involved in the film.

In other news, the team working on Black Myth: Wukong sequel Zhong Kui are taking inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
