Christmas isn’t the time for watching hard-hitting documentaries or binging on box sets. During the festive season, you want to whack on a funny and heartwarming DVD that’s going to please everyone. And this is where the good people at Disney Pixar come in. With Finding Dory now available to buy on Blu-ray and DVD, we round up five of the animation giant’s most enduring movies.
1. Toy Story 3
All three Toy Story films are pretty magical, but 2010’s third instalment is definitely the most touching. No matter how long it’s been since you were kid, you’ll find the final scene involving Andy and his favourite toy Woody hopelessly emotional.
2. Monsters, Inc.
Disney Pixar’s 2001 hit has a plot that cleverly taps into our childhood insecurities: Monsters, Inc. is a company that generates a city’s power supply by targeting and scaring children. There’s the odd frightening moment, but ultimately this film is warm, charming and very funny.
3. The Incredibles
Released in 2004, this witty and inventive action-comedy centres on a crew of superheroes who pose as an ordinary suburban family so they can go about quietly saving the world. The long-awaited sequel hits cinema screens in 2018.
4. WALL-E
WALL-E‘s title character is a cute sentient robot who spends his days diligently cleaning up rubbish on a contaminated future vision of planet Earth. Released in 2008, it’s a typically endearing Disney Pixar movie whose environmentally-conscious message remains very topical.
5. Finding Dory
This year’s sequel to Finding Nemo is fresh but comfortingly familiar at the same time. The plot follows Ellen DeGeneres’s sweet but forgetful Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) as she swims across the ocean in pursuit of her long-lost parents, Jenny and Charlie. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself welling up at the end.
