Following the reported harassment of Star Wars actor Kelly Marie Tran, The Late Show hosted by Stephen Colbert has put together a new trailer for Star Wars IX designed to ‘piss off hateful fanboys’.
Kelly Marie Tran – who plays Rose Tico in ‘The Last Jedi’ – deleted all of her Instagram posts after months of harassment on the social media platform. Since then, there has been support for Trab from the film industry but Colbert’s late show have taken the fight straight to the harassers.
Colbert said before showing the new trailer: “May I remind you, Kelly Marie Tran is the first lead woman in a Star Wars movie that is not white”.
The trailer is made of footage from previous Star Wars films and makes fun of the ‘problems’ the hateful Star Wars fans have with the franchise.

“In 2019 comes the first Star Wars movie specifically designed to make racist, misogynist nerds mad,” the trailer begins. It adds: “All the cool male characters like Kylo Ren and Poe Dameron all fell into a hole, after Rey cut their penises off”.

“On social media a few unhealthy people can cast a big shadow on the wall, but over the past 4 years I’ve met lots of real fellow SW fans,” he wrote on Twitter. “We like and dislike stuff but we do it with humour, love and respect. We’re the VAST majority, we’re having fun & doing just fine.”
At the time of the release of ‘The Last Jedi’ Tran explained how special it was to be welcomed into the Star Wars universe.
“And I think that’s kinda how she holds her own… I’m making a Star Wars movie. I just feel so lucky to see how much work goes into everything and to see the end product. It’s been magical.”
