This year’s Oscar nominations were announced today (January 23).
Those in the running for awards at the 2025 Oscars ceremony – which takes place on March 2 – were confirmed today at 1.30pm (8.30am ET/5.30am PT). Watch the nominations via the live stream below.
The nominations come ahead of the 97th Academy Awards, and were announced by Wicked and Saturday Night Live (SNL) star Bowen Yang and Bottoms and Shiva Baby’s Rachel Sennott. The ceremony itself will be hosted by Conan O’Brien.
Jacques Audiard’s original musical thriller Emilia Pérez leads the pack with a massive 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Karla Sofía Gascón and Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña.
Brady Corbet’s architectural epic The Brutalist and Jon M. Chu’s starry Broadway adaptation Wicked came in tied for second place, with 10 nominations each. Other movies with multiple nods include Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and papal drama Conclave with eight apiece, and Sean Baker’s Anora, which received six nominations.
Some notable omissions include Daniel Craig, who was tipped to get a Best Actor nod for Queer, and Conclave‘s Edward Berger from the Best Director list. Nickel Boys was also shut out of all of the major categories except Screenplay, despite receiving a Best Picture nomination – and there were no nods for either of Luca Guadagnino’s 2024 movies, Queer or the erotically-charged tennis romance Challengers.
One thing we do already know about this year’s ceremony is that it will not include performances from those in the Best Original Song category.
